To provide an ornamental member wherein a surface layer can be made into a film while a rugged feeling is improved at low cost.
The ornamental member include a decoration layer which has a three-dimensionally imitated image by drawing as the shade a shadow projected when ruggedness is illuminated obliquely and a surface layer which, installed on the decoration layer, has light transmissivity. The surface layer diffuses light in a manner that a distance from the surface of each part is hardly perceptible in the image viewed through the surface layer. Also, the surface layer diffuses light such that a boundary forming the shade of the image is undeformed when viewed through the surface layer and that change in brightness is relaxed in the boundary forming the shade of the image. Furthermore, the ornamental member is characterized in that the surface layer is constituted of a matrix with a material having such physical properties as total light transmittance in 15 mm thickness is ≥90% and of particles dispersed in the matrix. The particles have physical properties in which total light transmittance in 3 mm thickness is ≥10%, in a planar member prepared by dispersing the particles in 1.91% vol relative to the material having such physical properties as total light transmittance in 15 mm thickness is ≥90%.
