PURPOSE: To provide a low-cost ornamental member having satisfactory strength and workability in practical use and also having original ornamental fine appearance.
CONSTITUTION: A sintered diamond layer 3 having 0.5-100μm average particle diameter of diamond 4 is joined at high temp. and pressure to the surface part 2 of a base material 1 consisting of a WC-based cemented carbide contg. a bonding phase whose lattice constant has been regulated to ≤3.57 to obtain the objective ornamental member having the appearance of diamond, high hardness and strength. The color tone of this ornamental member can selectively be controlled by incorporating 0.1-20% one or more kinds of components selected among groups IVa, Va and VIa elements of the periodic table, Fe, Co, Ni, carbides, nitrides, oxides and borides of these elements into the sintered diamond.
