PURPOSE: To easily preset an external AV equipment in a menu system with no obstruction of the OSD display after connecting the AV equipment to a TV receiver having an OSD function.

CONSTITUTION: A side wave switch 8 is turned on when a menu setting screen is selected. Then a sine wave superposing circuit 6 superposes a sine wave of low frequency produced by a sine wave generating circuit 4 on a video signal S0. A TV receiver samples the sine wave out of the video signal superposed by the sine wave through a clamp circuit 26 and at the same time detects the included sine wave through a peak detector circuit 36 and a microcomputer 38. Thus an OSD switch 32 is turned off and an OSD generating circuit 28 is isolated from an OSD inserting circuit 30.
