To provide an outboard motor and a control device for the same configured to prevent occurence of double engagement in which a forward side gear and a reverse side gear simultaneously engage in a power transmission shaft.
The outboard motor and a control device for the same comprise: a transmission 24 which comprises forward gears 76 and 82 and reverse gears 78 and 84 supported by a power transmission shaft that transmits power from an internal combustion engine to a propeller, a forward dog clutch C1 that can engage the forward gears in the power transmission shaft 60 and the like, a reverse dog crutch CR that can engage the reverse gears in the power transmission shaft, a forward shift actuator 90 that can joint the forward dog crutch to the forward gears, and a reverse shift actuator 94 that can joint the reverse dog crutch to the reverse gears; a first electromagnetic solenoid valve 106a that is inserted into an oil passage connecting a hydraulic pump 86 to the forward shift actuator; and a second electromagnetic solenoid valve 106b that is inserted into an oil passage connecting the hydraulic pump to the reverse shift actuator.
