Abstract:

To provide an outboard motor and a marine vessel which can detect such an angle as to rotate an outboard motor body around a steering shaft, at a position separated from the steering shaft without providing a detection part for detecting such the angle as to rotate the outboard motor body around the steering shaft coaxially with the steering shaft.SOLUTION: In an outboard motor 100 (marine vessel 120), a steering mechanism 40 includes a pinion 42 which is arranged in a central part 102a in the horizontal direction of an outboard motor body 102, and is rotated together with the outboard motor body 102, a rack 43 which moves straight so as to rotate the pinion 42, and a rack position detection part 46 which is provided on an opposite side to the pinion 42 relative to the rack 43, and detects the position of the rack 43.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
