Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure effective protection for persons close to an outboard motor when a bonnet of the outboard motor is open and flywheels are rotating.SOLUTION: An outboard motor of a reciprocating piston type internal combustion engine 2 has upright crankshafts 3, 4. The crankshafts have flywheels 7, 8 at upper ends, the flywheels are enclosed with a cover 10, and the cover extensively surrounds the flywheels starting at a top of the internal combustion engine. For optimizing the outboard motor, a crankshaft system has the two parallel crankshafts, the flywheels, when viewed in the axial direction of the crankshafts, are arranged offset to each other and overlap in the manner of an arc shape. The cover encloses the two flywheels over a large part of the area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
