To provide an outboard motor unlikely to generate such an occurrence that the water taken in from an opening for taking in the outside air enters into a suction passage by the gravitational force and capable of leading the outside air from which the water is removed to the engine.
The outboard motor 1 is equipped with a cowling 7 covering the engine 10 and an outside air take-in opening 20 formed in the cowling 7 whereby the outside air taken in from the opening 20 is led to the engine 10, in which further a suction passage 21 is provided in the upper outside of the cowling 7, and the lead-in side 21a of the suction passage 21 is in communication with the opening 20, while the exhaust side 21b is in communication with a suction hole 25a1 in the silencer upper part 25a of the engine 10 or with the engine room 24.
