Abstract:
To provide an outboard motor capable of restraining a forward directional water flow from touching a rear surface of ship's bottom in retreating.
A starboard outboard motor 3a comprises: a body; first PTT device 20a; and a first ECU. The first ECU can set operation of the first PTT device 20a so that a rear end part 17a2 of a propeller shaft 17a is positioned above a front end part 17a1, when determining that the propeller shaft 17a rotates in a direction for retreating a hull. Thus, since a forward oblique downward water flow can be generated by rotation of a propeller 13a, the water flow by the propeller 13a can be restrained from touching a transom of the hull.
