PURPOSE: To achieve a large diameter work shaft applied with outer diameter mirror work by employing not the dedicated machine tool but a general lath.

CONSTITUTION: The fixing table 12 for an outer diameter polishing tool is mounted on the cutter table of a known general lath, then a motor 1 is driven to transmit the rotation through a shaft coupling 14 to the spindle 16 thus to ratate the main pulley 18. While a paper belt 48 will transmit the rotation of main pulley 18 to an inverted pulley 30. Thereafter the belt 48 of said outer diameter tool is moved to the outer diameter side of a shaft to be worked rotating reversely to press the belt 48 held on the pulley 30 against the outer diameter of said shaft to perform the mirror work on the outer diameter of said shaft through relative friction between said shaft and belt 48. Since the mirror work on the outercircumference of large diameter can be performed by a general machine tool, the initial cost and working cost can be reduced.
