To provide an outer periphery grinding method and an outer periphery grinder of an insert, stabilizing the cutting blade position in mounting on a holder regardless of thickness of an insert base material.
The thickness of the insert base material is measured, and a design value of diameter of an inscribed circle of the insert body is corrected based on a difference between the measured value of thickness and the design value. At least one of a main cutting blade and an outer peripheral side is formed, and an insert intermediate body is ground referring to the center and formed. After that, the diameter of the inscribed circle of the intermediate body is measured, and a grinding locus of at least one of a sub-cutting blade referring to the center of the intermediate body and a side cutting part is calculated as a central basis locus from a different between the measured value of the diameter and a difference between the measured value of the thickness of the base material and the design value, and also the moving distance in the case of setting the central basis locus on the side basis is calculated. The distance from the center of the intermediate body to at least one of the sub-cutting blade and the side cutting part is corrected according to the difference between the measured value of the inscribed circle and the corrected design value, the difference between the measured value of thickness of the base material and the design value thereof, and the moving distance to perform grinding.
