When an operational amplifier OP1 of an overcurrent detection circuit 16 detects that a voltage drop across an output transistor exceeds a threshold value Vref, the overcurrent detection circuit 16 turns on a switch SW2. A capacitor CP2 in a shutdown signal generating circuit 22 is charged up with a charging current I5 based on a current I1 depending on the voltage drop across the output transistor. When the level of the capacitor CP2 becomes higher than the potential Vref2 of an inverting input terminal of an operational amplifier OP3, the shutdown signal generating circuit 22 generates a shutdown signal to turn off an output switch 11.
