PURPOSE: To obtain an oxidation catalyst superior in heat resistance even at high temp. by coating a slurry prepared by mixing an oxide such as alumina which carries oxides of rare earth elements, with palladium oxide and a binder, on a honeycomb like heat resistant base material.
CONSTITUTION: By mixing at least one or more kinds oxides (carrier) among the alumina silica, titania and zirconia which carries oxides of rare earth elements and palladium oxide powder becoming an active component with the binder, and by pulverizing by a wet method and mixing, the carrier and palladium ioxide are made fine particles and also a uniformly dispersed slurry is obtained. The oxide catalyst obtained by wash coating this on the honeycomb heat resistant base material is active, since the particle size of the palladium is small, and the carrier works as a barrier preventing sintering of the palladium oxide, since the palladium oxide is uniformly dispersed on the carrier imparted heat resistance by coating the oxides of rare earth elements, thus degradation of the activity is little, even though it is used for long hours at high temp.
