Abstract:

PURPOSE: To perform the partial oxidation and hydroperoxide decomposition of an alkane, especially, at a light alkane by using a new porphyrin as a catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: A catalyst containing a metal complex of iron, manganese, cobalt or ruthenium represented by the formula [wherein M is iron, manganese, cobalt or ruthenium; (a) R6 is H or a haloaryl and R3 is H or a haloalkyl and both of R6 and R3 are not H and R1, R2 R4 and R5 are each H, hydrocarbyl, a halogen, nitro, cyano or halocarbyl; and (b) R3 and R6 are each a haloalkyl and R1, R2, R4 and R6 are each a halogen], its oxo crosslinked dimer or an azide is used and an alkane is brought into contact with the catalyst along with oxygen to be partially oxidized. As the catalyst, (C6F5)2(CF3)2PFeN3(P; porphyrin ring), (C6F5)2(CF3)2PFeCl and [(C6F5)2(CF3)2PFe]2O are especially pref. By this method, the alkane is partially oxidized to an alcohol and hydroperoxide is decomposed to obtain an alcohol.
