PURPOSE: To carry out the oxidation reaction of naphthalene, etc. in an aqueous solution of ceric sulfate and sulfuric acid, by controlling the molar concentration and above a specific molar concentration of Ce in the produced cerous sulfate.
CONSTITUTION: The oxidation of an organic compound in an aqueous solution of ceric sulfate (A) and sulfuric acid is carried out by adjusting the molar concentration of the compound (A) below the saturated molar concentration and above the molar concentration of Ce (ion) of the produced cerous sulfate (B) corresponding to the solubility of the compound (B) in the aqueous solution of sulfuric acid of the final concentration (excluding the compound A and the compound B) (preferably ≥0.3mol/l and ≤ saturated molar concentration).
EFFECT: The reaction efficiency can be improved by maintaining the ceric sulfate concentration at a level to prevent the crystallization of the cerous sulfate in the reaction system at the end point of the reaction.
