To positively provide an oxide superconducting wire material that allows an oxide superconducting layer to be formed with its disturbance in crystal orientation sufficiently reliably suppressed even when the layer is made thick, and has sufficiently high Jc and Ic.
A method for manufacturing an oxide superconducting wire material comprises forming an oxide superconducting layer to manufacture an oxide superconducting wire material on a substrate by a coating pyrolysis method using an organo metallic compound as a raw material. The manufacturing method comprises: a coating film making step for making a coating film by applying a solution of the organo metallic compound on the substrate; a calcination heat treatment step for pyrolyzing and removing organic components contained in the organo metallic compound of the coating film to make a calcined film; an intermediate heat treatment step for decomposing and removing carbonate contained in the calcined film; and a sintering heat treatment step for crystallizing the calcined film whose carbonate has been decomposed and removed to form an oxide superconducting layer. The intermediate heat treatment step is carried out in a predetermined reduced pressure atmosphere.
