PURPOSE: To make improvement in responsiveness and the reproducibility of a measured value so that various kinds of components can be measured by combining an enzyme modified electrode in which an enzyme and/or enzyme-contg. material and a mediator are made to coexist as electrode components and a reference electrode.
CONSTITUTION: The enzyme is mixed with the mixture composed of graphite powder and the mediator so as to be uniformly mixed therein. This mixture is applied on the electrode surface to produce the enzyme modified carbon electrode. The enzyme modified carbon electrode produced in such a manner is built into a sample chamber (electrolytic cell) and the sample chamber is filled with an electrolyte by using a pump. Electricity is impressed on this electrode with the suitable reference electrode (for example, silver chloride electrode) as a connector electrode. A sample contg. a measuring material is then injected from a sample injecting port into the sample chamber. The oxidation current generated by the reaction of the measuring material contained in the sample and the enzyme in the enzyme modified carbon electrode is converted to a voltage value and this value is measured. The concn. in the sample is determined by comparison with the measured value of a standard liquid.
