PURPOSE: To improve the yield of ozone and to make an ozonizer small in size consuming less energy by supplying air to a discharge space between a ground electrode and a high voltage electrode and specifying the discharge gap smaller than a conventional device when ozone is produced by silent discharge.
CONSTITUTION: A ground metal electrode tube 2 which is almost cylindrical and has an inlet 9 and an outlet 10 for cooling water is formed inside an ozonizer, and an entrance 11 for the source material gas such as air or oxygen and an exit 12 for ozone are formed in specified position. A high voltage electrode tube 4 comprising a dielectric material the inner wall of which is coated with a conductive film 5 is inserted almost concentrically into the inside of the ground electrode tube 2. Plural spacers 13 are used to form a discharge space 3 of 0.4-1mm length between the ground electrode tube 2 and the high voltage electrode tube 4. Then a gas containing oxygen is supplied through the inlet 11 into the discharge space 3, while high voltage is applied on the conductive film 5 to convert the gas containing oxygen into ozone by discharge. The produced ozone is taken out through the exit 12.
