NEW MATERIAL:A p-isopropenylaniline dimer of the formula A-R-A [A is group of formula I (R1 and R2 are Hs, alkyls or halogens); R is group of formula II or III].
EXAMPLE: 4-Methyl-2,4-bis(4'-aminophenyl)-pent-2-ene.
USE: A raw material for a coating material, agricultural insecticide, medicine, rubber additive, dye or resin for forming an adhesive, an epoxy resin hardener, particularly heat-resistant maleimide resin. Maleimide for the heat-resistant maleimide resin having improved heat resistance, mechanical strength and processing characteristics can be obtained by reacting the compound of the formula with maleic anhydride.
PROCESS: A p-isopropylaniline is dimerized in the presence or absence fo an inert organic solvent and an acid catalyst under heating to give the compound of the formula.
