Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently bridge the coating material and to accelerate the velocity of fiber drawing by providing a cooling gas passage around the optical fiber drawn and passing, and adjusting the retained state of cooling gas to adjust irradiation amount of ultraviolet rays to the coating material. CONSTITUTION:A cooling gas passing tube 12 of double pipe structure is disposed around the glass pipe 11 through which the naked optical fiber 4 applied with an ultraviolet ray hardening resin is passed. The mirror 13 which forms a part of the ellipse A having the 1st forcus B at the position of the passing axis of naked optical fiber 4 is disposed in the rear part of the cooling gas passing tube 12. A light source 14 is disposed at the 2nd focus C of this ellipse A to irradiate all over the surface of the naked optical fiber 4 with ultraviolet rays. In this case, the retaining state (the gas pressure) of the cooling gas flowing through the cooling gas passing tube 12 is adjusted to adjust the amount of ultraviolet rays reached to the coating material applied to the naked optical fiber 4 to be suitable amount for bridge formation.
