Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable a shift that is in agreement with the driver' s will by causing a controller, which inhibits the shift to R-range when the vehicle speed is at or above a predetermined value, to permit the shift to R-range when the vehicle speed is less than the predetermined high value.

CONSTITUTION: A transmission gear mechanism 30, to which engine power is inputted via a torque converter 20, includes frictional engaging parts 41-46, such as clutches and brakes, and one-way clutches 51, 52 and makes a shift and outputs the power by switching their states of engagement. When a vehicle travels forward, an operation for shifting a selector level to R-range is inhibited if the vehicle speed is at or above a predetermined value. In this case, the shift to R-range is inhibited when the vehicle speed is as high as at or above the predetermined value, whereas when the vehicle speed is less than the predetermined value, the driver lowers the vehicle speed e.g. by operating the brake pedal and then the shift to R-range is recognized to be in agreement with the driver' s will and is therefore permitted.
