PURPOSE: To prevent the electrification of spacers without reducing the specific resistance of a liq. crystal material and to enhance the qualilty of a picture displayed by a liq. crystal display device.
CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower electrode substrates 11, 12 are superposed at a prescribed interval left by many spacers 1 interposed between the substrates 11, 12 so that faces of the substrates 11, 12 with formed transparent picture element electrodes confront each other, a liq. crystal 50 is sealed in the gap between the substrates 11, 12 to form a liq. crystal display cell and a liq. crystal display device with the cell is produced. At this time, the surfaces of the spacers 10 are coated with a nonionic surfactant or this surfactant is incorporated into the material of the spacers 1 by kneading.
