PURPOSE: To obtain the new compounds useful for the eradication and prophylaxis of picornaviral infections.

CONSTITUTION: These are the compounds of formula I (Y is a single bond or 1-6C alkylene; R1 is H or 1-3C lower alkyl; R2 and R3 are each H, 1-3C alkyl or halogen; R4 is 1-3C lower alkyl). These are obtained by reacting the compounds of formula II (X is Cl or Br) with the compounds of formula III in the presence of a base such as a diisopropylethylamine.
