PURPOSE: To enhance controllability by providing a direction-selecting switch and a gear shift switch which indicates upshift and downshift positions, and enabling at least one gear position to be selected from neutral and parking positions using the gear shift switch.
CONSTITUTION: A supporting member 8 projected from the inner surface of the driver's side door is provided with a direction-selecting control 9 and a steering column is provided with a gear shift lever 6 which projects toward the front passenger seat. The direction-selecting control 9 has a rotary operating drum 25 supported on a base 23, and a protruding streak 26 serving as a pointer is projected at the center of the outer peripheral surface of the rotary operating drum 25 and parallel to a pivot. On the outer peripheral surface of the rotary operating drum 25, R(reverse) is displayed in front of the protruding streak 26, and N(neutral), P(parking) and D(dash) are displayed behind the protruding streak. The gear shift lever 6 can oscillate vertically and has an upshift position (D-up), a neutral position (D-neutral), and a downshift position (D-down) in descending order.
