PURPOSE: To realize high picture quality by using a magnetic toner comprising fine particles essentially comprising melamine as the main component and having a specified average particle size and the like, and using negative charge silica fine particles having a specified BET specific surface area measured by nitrogen adsorption.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic toner used for this electrophotographic method consists of a binder resin, magnetic material and external additive. The external additive consists of fine particles essentially comprising melamine and having 0.01-12μm average particle size and 0.1-50m2/g BET specific surface area by nitrogen adsorption, and negative charge hydrophobic silica fine particles having 50-350m2/g BET specific surface area measured by adsorption of nitrogen. An electrostatic latent image formed on a photoreceptor drum 1 is visualized with the magnetic toner 7. While a transfer paper 16 is inserted and carried between the phptpreceptor drum 1 and a transfer roller 13, the visualized image of the magnetic toner 7 on the photoreceptor drum 1 is transferred to the paper 16 by applying bias voltage for transfer on the transfer roller 13. Thereby, the high picture quality with high image density and low surface fog is realized.
