Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a perpendicular magnetic recording medium in which a generation of noise in a used frequency region is not recognized at the time of reproduction by a method wherein the Fe content or permeability of a soft magnetic layer composed of a NiFe system alloy system is specified.

CONSTITUTION: In a perpendicular magnetic record medium, a vertical magnetic record layer 3 is provided via a soft magnetic layer 2 of a NiFe system alloy system on a nonmagnetic substrate 2. Permeability at 300Hz in a head traveling direction of the soft magnetic layer 2 is 6000 or more. In particular, when a magnetic layer is CoCrTaPt and permeability of the soft magnetic layer is 12000 or over, even if it is heated at 320°C at the time of sputtering, a stripe-like magnetic domain structure does not occur and noise in low frequency region is not recognized. Further, a coercive force is larger than CoCrTa and a reproduction output value is large.
