Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparation of Na-β-alaninate from β-amino-propionitrile ready for condensation with R-pantolactone to obtain D-pantothenate.SOLUTION: The process for preparation of Na-β-alaninate comprises carrying out the hydrolysis of β-amino-propionitrile in an alkaline aqueous medium or an alcohol/water mixture and then making a solvent exchange to an alcohol, so that the final β-alaninate mixture contains by-products in amounts which do not negatively influence the D-pantothenate quality.SELECTED DRAWING: None
