PURPOSE: To simplify the mechanism, reduce the cost and improve edge folding efficiency, by supporting and arranging an auxiliary holding mechanism, a feeding mechanism and a folding mechanism in such a state where the relative turning to the side surface is available, and equipping an edge folding unit support driving mechanism which drives forward and backward.
CONSTITUTION: A packaging material edge folding equipment possesses an auxiliary holding mechanism 6 which folds a part of an edge b1 on a side surface a1 and holds the edge b1, a feeding mechanism 7 which feeds in the edge b1 while directing it to approach the axial center side, and a folding mechanism 8 which holds and folds a looseness b2 of the edge b1, and an edge folding unit support driving mechanism 10 which supports each mechanisms 6, 7 and 8, arranges those 6, 7 and 8 mechanisms in a state where the relative turning to the side surface a1 is available, and also drives forward and backward, is equipped. By the advance of the auxiliary holding mechanism 6, a part of the edge b1 of a packaging material (b) is folded on the side surface a1 and held. On the edge, the feeding mechanism 7 and the folding mechanism 8 advance, and the auxiliary holding mechanism 6 retreats. By the relative turning of each mechanism to the side surface a1, the edge b1 is fed in while being directed to approach the axial center side by the feeding mechanism 7, the looseness b2 of the edge is held and folded by the folding mechanism 8, and thus the edge of the packaging material (b) is smoothly and securely folded along the side surface of a cylindrical object to be packaged (a).
