To provide a packing ring in a multi-stage turbine.
The packing ring contains two ring segments (20, 22) connected to each other by a dovetail mechanism (23). In some embodiments, the dovetail mechanism (23) can include a male/female configuration. In other embodiments, the dovetail mechanism (23) can include an insert/groove configuration. The insert (24) in the insert/groove configuration can include a projection extending from a substantially flat surface of one end (20) of the ring segments. The groove (26) in the insert/groove configuration can include a notch in a substantially flat surface of the other end (22) of the ring segments. In the insert (24) and groove (26) in the insert/groove configuration, the insert (24) can have an approximate dimension which allows a precise fit with the groove (26).
