To provide a page turning mechanism and a book scanning apparatus which can reliably turn only one page.
A CPU 81 rotates a turning roller 19 in the counterclockwise direction in the state of nipping a page wound up between the turning roller 19 and a separation roller 20, and also rotates the separation roller in the counterclockwise direction so as to return pages 98, other than a page 97 which contacts with the separation roller 20, in a seam side direction from a nip point 99 between the separation roller 20 and the turning roller 19. The CPU 81 makes a turning shaft 47 enter between the turning roller 19 and a book 91 in the horizontal state, raises the turning shaft 47 to a predetermined height, and rotates via a turning shaft rotation motor 63.
