To provide a page turning-over mechanism capable of surely separating the pages of a booklet, and avoiding double-page conveying and empty conveying.
Before a page of the booklet 90 is turned over, a separating distance between a pressing member 2 and a separating member 10 is changed to expand upward the uppermost page 90d between the pressing member 2 and the separating member 10. The condition of the uppermost page is detected by a page-condition detecting sensor 41, and a press-position-table which stores a relation between the separating distance between the pressing member 2 and the separating member 10 and either of conditions of the upward expanded uppermost page 90d consisting of a condition where the pages are overlapped, a condition where the page is only one sheet, and a condition where the page is not expanded, is prepared. An optimum separating distance between the pressing member 2 and the separating member 10 when the uppermost page is separated, is selected from the pressing position table, to avoid the double conveying and the empty conveying.
