To provide a higher-speed adaptable image forming device having an increased paper feeding speed while performing accurate transfer alignment to a toner image.
A pair of resist rollers 14 in free contact and separation are provided near the paper-carrying-direction upstream side of a gate means 13 which can open/close a carrying passage for paper 8 and position the paper with its front end abutting thereon at the closing position. The gate means 13 performs positioning in the state that the pair of resist rollers 14 are separated from each other. The gate means 13 performing positioning is released when the pair of resist rollers 14 contact each other. The pair of resist rollers 14 carry the paper 8 downstream of the gate means 13 at a predetermined timing, and a paper detecting means 16 detects the misalignment of the end of the paper. Depending on the misalignment, the pair of resist rollers 14 are moved perpendicularly to the paper carrying direction, namely, in the cross direction of the paper. Depending on the misalignment of the paper, the driving system and the driving rotating speed of a motor for driving the movement of the pair of resist rollers are changed over.
