PURPOSE: To obtain the title composition containing a pigment for paper coating and copolymer latex containing a muconic acid monomer as a binder at a specific ratio and having excellent coating property and gloss of white paper and print gloss of coated paper.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition containing a copolymer latex as a binder at an amount of 5-20 pts.wt. expressed in terms of solid content based on 100 pts.wt. pigment for paper coating and containing a muconic acid monomer as a monomer component in the copolymer latex. Furthermore, preferably, the above-mentioned copolymer latex has a monomer composition consisting of (A) 10-60% aliphatic conjugated monomer, (B) 20-80% aromatic vinyl based monomer and/or ethylene based unsaturated carboxylic acid alkyl ester monomer, (C) 0.5-6% muconic acid monomer and (D) 0-40% other copolymerizable monomer.
