Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a paper-coating composition having practical utility and excellent coating properties and giving a mat coated paper having low gloss and especially excellent smoothness, strength and printing gloss.
CONSTITUTION: The adhesive to be used in this paper-coating composition is produced by compounding (A) a latex obtained by the emulsion polymerization of 40-55wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated diolefin monomer, 5-30wt.% of a vinyl cyanide monomer, 1-7wt.% of a monoolefin monomer and 8-54wt.% of other monoolefin monomer as constituent components of the polymer with (B) an emulsion produced by the emulsion polymerization of a monoolefin monomer as a main monomer component and having a Tg of ≥70°C and an average particle diameter of 30-100nm at a weight ratio A:B of 90:10 to 50:50 in terms of solid. The adhesive is used in an amount of 10-25 pts.wt. in terms of solid based on pigment to obtain the objective paper-coating composition.
