PURPOSE: Titled composition, excellent in adhesion and water resistance, and giving a coated paper of good stiffness, which comprises a pigment for coating paper and a specified adhesive.
CONSTITUTION: A latex (A) prepared by the free-radical emulsion copolymerization of 32W43pts.wt. of butadiene (a), 0W30pts.wt. of a (meth)acrylate (b), 1W 6pts.wt. of an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid (c) and 21W67pts.wt. of an ethylenic unsaturated aromatic monomer (d), a latex (B) prepared by the free- radical emulsion copolymerization of 6W19pts.wt. of component (a), 0W30pts.wt. of component (b), 1W6pts.wt. of component (c) and 43W93pts.wt. of component (d), and a latex (c) prepared by the free-radical emulsion polymerization of 0W 50pts.wt. of vinyl acetate (e), 10W30pts.wt. of an ethylenic unsaturated monocarboxylic acid (f) and 20W90pts.wt. of component (b), are compounded in a weight ratio of A:B of 30/70:70/30 and of C:(A+B) of 2W20:100, to obtain an adhesive composed of an alkali-sensitive emulsion. 4W30pts.wt. of said adhesive are compounded with 100pts.wt. of a pigment for coating paper, and the pH is adjusted to 7.3W13.0 by the addition of an alkoline material when application.
