To provide a paper-coating resin excellent in ink receptivity, wet pickup and blister resistance while inhibiting the increase of a high-shear viscosity or reducing it by incorporating a specified rosin amine.
This resin contains a rosin amine having a base rosin skeleton of formula I or II and 1 to 3 groups, bonded to each base rosin skeleton, of at least one member selected from among amino groups of formula III (R1 and R2 being H or 1-18C hydrocarbon group; and n being 0 to 1), ammonium salt groups of formula IV (Z1- being an inorganic acid and/or organic acid residue) obtained by neutralizing the amino group with an inorganic acid and/or organic acid, and quaternary ammonium salts of formula V (R3 to R5 being a 1-18C hydrocarbon; m being 0 to 1; Z2- being Cl-, Br-, I- or an anion of formula VI (R6 and R7 being a 1-6C alkyl).
