Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain paper good in barrier properties, transparency and dimensional stability by coating the surface of base paper composed of wood pulp having a specific beating degree with a mixture solution containing PVA, a starch hydrolyzate and a filler with a size press, then drying the coated paper and calendering the dried paper.
CONSTITUTION: The objective paper excellent in barrier properties, transparency and further dimensional stability is obtained by coating the surface of base paper composed of 85-100wt.% wood pulp having ≥350ml CSF beating degree with a mixture solution containing 2-6wt.% polyvinyl alcohol, 5-15wt.% starch hydrolyzate having ≤200000 average molecular weight and 2-15wt.% one or more fillers such as clay, kaolin, talc, calcium carbonate, silica and aluminum hydroxide so as to provide 2-10g/m2 coating weight expressed in terms of solid content with a size press, then drying the coated paper and subsequently calendering the dried paper with a machine calender or a supercalender. This paper has ≥5000sec air and 50-80% opacity.
