PURPOSE: To shorten the time requiref for carrying paper, by providing a detecting means for detecting the paper which arrives in order in front of a resist roller, and controlling the driving of the resist roller and the driving of a carrying and paper feeding means in connection with each other.

CONSTITUTION: The tip of the first sheet of paper S in a tray 13, which is fed out at prescribed intervals in order by a paper feed roll 130 and a pair of carrying rollers 11, 12 is detected by a sensor 10. This time point and the time point when the paper reaches a resist roller 9 from relation of a paper feed speed are set, and when the first paper is brough into abutment on the resist roller 9, the carrying rollers 11, 12 and the roll 130 are stopped. Subsequently, by an image synchronizing signal, the resist roller 9 starts its driving, and simultaneously, the carrying and paper feeding means is alos driven. In this way, the paper S is fed out in order at prescribed intervals onto the carrying path, therefore, the time required for carrying the paper can be shortened.
