PURPOSE: To speedily feed paper to an objective position and accurately stop the paper at an objective position, by giving a sufficiently long time between the completion of a paper feed operation, which is immediately after the depressing of a paper feed switch, and the time of starting of a subsequent paper feed operation.

CONSTITUTION: When a paper switch in a typewriter, in which a paper feed switch is operated to feed paper intermittently by one line at a time, is operated, paper is immediately fed by one line at a time T3. When the paper switch is left turned on after a quiescent time T1 has passed, the paper if fed for a second line. After a quiescent time T2 has passed, the paper is fed for a third line. As long as the paper feed switch is left turned on, the paper is fed repeatedly by one line at a time every time a quiescent time T2 has passed. Every time the paper has come close to an objective position, the switch is operated to feed the paper by one line at a time and stop the paper accurately.
