PURPOSE: To avoid the occurrence of double-feed of paper sheets from a hopper portion and a paper jam by providing a mechanism constructed so that a paper sheet is fed out by a separator roller and the braking force is applied to the paper sheet by a reversing roller.

CONSTITUTION: When a drive gear 1 is rotated in the direction of an arrow 17, a reversing gear 2 is rotated in the direction of an arrow 8 and a reversing roller 4 is also rotated in the direction of the arrow 8. Simultaneously, the driving force of the drive gear 1 transmitted to a feed gear 3 to rotate a separator roller 5 in the direction of an arrow 7, so that a paper sheet 6 is fed out in the direction of an arrow 18. Accordingly, the force in the direction of an arrow 19 is applied to the lower surface of the paper sheets 6 stacked in a hopper portion so as to prevent the occurrence of double-feed of paper sheets and a paper jam.
