When sheets P stacked on a paper feeding tray are fed by a feed roller 1, a pad supporting member 8 equipped with a friction member 7 is put in pressure contact with the roller 1 so that the sheets P are separated and carried one by one. In this paper feeding device on the friction pad system, the friction member 7 in contact with the roller 1 is formed curving in an angle shape in the roller circumferential direction. Accordingly the position L1 of the contacting point T with a nip formed on the roller 1 becomes large owing to the angle-shaped curving of the friction member 7, which should increase the pre-separating force compared with the conventional level.
