To provide a paper feeding mechanism capable of feeding paper securely at low cost and to provide a method for machining a paper feeding roller used in it.

This paper feeding mechanism is provided with the metal-made paper feeding roller 1, a pressure-contact roller 2 capable of coming into pressure contact with the paper feeding roller 1, and a recording paper (not shown) coming into pressure contact and nipped between the paper feeding roller 1 and the pressure-contact roller 2 to feed paper. In a part where the recording paper is brought into pressure contact in the circumferential direction in an outer peripheral part of the paper feeding roller 1, a plurality of projections including the first projection 1c and the second projection 1d at a position close to both end parts in the longitudinal direction of the paper feeding roller 1 on an outer side of the first projection 1c are formed. The second projection 1d is formed to have larger height than that of the first projection 1c to allow the pressure-contact roller 2 to come into pressure contact.
