PURPOSE: To prevent paper jamming at the cutter part of a printer with a cutter employing roll paper, by cutting the paper by the cutter before operating a roll paper feed means for a predetermined time.

CONSTITUTION: When printing operation is started, a thermal head 16 is driven to apply printing to roll paper 14 and the paper is fed by a feed roller pair 20. Even when printing operation is finished, the feed roller pair 20 continuously operates and, when a printing part exceeds a cutter part, the operation of the feed roller pair 20 is stopped and the roll paper 14 is cut by a fixed blade 22 and a rotary blade 24. After the elapse of a predetermined time, the feed roller pair 20 is again driven for a predetermined time and stopped at a position where the leading end of the roll paper 14 exceeds the blades 22, 24. By this constitution, even when curling is generated at the leading head of the roll paper by the cause of humidity, possibility generating paper jamming at the cutter part is reduced.
