PURPOSE: To provide a paper money identifying device capable of measuring the accurate output data of a bill even when a data measuring point is shifted due to the cutting shear of a paper money, the carrying slip of a carrying means, or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a measuring section setting means 8 for setting up plural output data measuring sections for detecting the features of the printing pattern of a paper money by measuring means 6, an output data processing means 9 for finding out at least one of data out of a maximum value in a section, a minimum valve in a section and an average value in a section based on the output data measured by the means 6 and an authenticity judging means 11 for judging the authenticity of a paper money by executing operation based on data found out by the means 9 and comparing the operation result with a reference value. Consequently at least one of data out of the maximum value in a section, the minimum value in a section and the average value in a section can be found out based on the output from the means 8, 6.
