To correctly synchronize a paper sheet with a photosensitive member drum on a transcription position, in a copying machine or a printer.

A paper sheet is fed from a timing roller 50 to the transcription position T of a photosensitive member drum 11 rotating in the direction of the arrow mark (b). The paper sheet is fed from a paper feed passage 40 or 42 to the timing roller 50, and carried to the transcription position T through a guide plate 51. The timing roller 50 can be moved along the direction of carrying a paper sheet. A time from beginning of rotation of the timing roller 50 to detection of the extreme end of the paper sheet by a sensor SE2 is compared with a previously set reference time, the timing roller 50 is moved on the upper stream side or the lower stream side in the paper sheet carrying direction based on difference of both, and hence the extreme end of the paper sheet is conformed to the extreme end of an image forming area on the photosensitive member drum 11.
