To provide a paper sheet or the like processing device capable of enhancing its reliability by making it possible to surely process a plurality of batches of paper sheet or the like partitioned with partition cards without bringing about mixture of the paper sheet or the like among the batches.

A bank note processing device 1 has a throwing-in part 2 for collectively throwing in a plurality of batches of bank notes partitioned with header cards, a taking-out part 3 for taking out a thrown-in medium to be processed onto a carrying path by one at a time, a detecting part 5 for reading images on the both faces of the taken-out medium to be processed with image readers 6a and 6b to detect the images, a collecting/binding part 9 for collecting and binding true bank notes decided to be a normal bank note according to detection results, and an exclusively collecting part 8 for collecting notes decided not to be a normal bank note, taken-out bank notes overlapped on each other, the header cards, etc. It is decided that a card and a bank note are overlappedly taken out by reading barcodes existing on both faces of the header card, and carrying a medium is stopped.
