To provide a sheet processing apparatus that prevents reduction in productivity when sheets different in paper size or binding position are bound in a row, and to provide an image forming system.
The sheet processing apparatus includes: a paper sheet tray on which a paper sheet is placed; a rear end aligning member for aligning a rear end in a paper sheet conveyance direction of the paper sheet and moving in a paper sheet width direction which is perpendicular to the paper sheet conveyance direction; a binding means for binding a paper sheet bundle; and a moving means for moving the rear end aligning member between a home position and a standby position located in the paper sheet width direction. When a plurality of paper sheet bundles are bound in a row, if the paper size or the binding position is different between a preceding bundle and a subsequent bundle to be bound, the apparatus includes a control means for controlling the moving means to move the rear end aligning member to the next standby position for the next binding processing without moving it back to the home position from the standby position positioned in the preceding binding processing.
