To provide a paper sheet processor which processes a header card and paper sheets in batch by recognizing the header card even when both of the header card and paper sheet are taken.

With respect to the standard thickness Ts of paper sheets, the standard thickness Hs of header cards is set to be 1.5Ts. The header cards are inserted to the breaks of respective batches to form a batch P1 and a batch P2, e.g. to be supplied to a supplying part 10, and taking out of the paper sheets is started. The paper sheets are taken out in order from the paper sheet P of the batch P1. When the both of the two of the paper sheet P1n and the header card H1 are taken, a header card detector 8 does not detect the header card H1 but a paper sheet discrimination device 19 detects it. As the result of the discrimination, the front surface of the stacked sheets is a paper sheet and the rear surface thereof is a header card, so that they can not be discriminated in discriminating the kinds of paper sheets and discriminating authenticity. However, thickness in a prescribed range is classified into a class D by thickness detection, so that the taken sheet is discriminated as the header card.
