Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a device, which can avoid local over correction for sensor degradation caused by remaining paper sheets, concerning the device for optically reading thin paper sheets such as paper moneys.
CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a paper sheets reading means 12 to read paper sheets with a lot of sensors 10 respectively combining light emitting elements and light receiving elements, average degradation rate calculating means 14 to calculate the average degradation rate of all the sensors 10 by dividing a ratio between the quantity of emitted light and the quantity of received light at the respective sensors 10 with a reference ratio when no paper sheet enters between the light emitting element and the light receiving element (optical path,) target emitted light quantity setting means 16 to set the target quantity of emitted light by multiplying the calculated average degradation rate to the ratio between the quantity of emitted light and the quantity of received light at the respective sensors 10 when the paper sheets enters between the light emitting element and the light receiving element, and sensor degradation correcting means 18 to correct the quantity of emitted light at the respective sensors 10 into the set target quantity.
