To provide a technology to be able to decide paper grain direction without increasing the device dimension.SOLUTION: An image formation device 1 includes: a first rigidity calculation unit 71d that acquires conveying direction rigidity information corresponding to the rigidity of the paper in the paper conveying direction based on the pressing force from the paper pressed by a pressing unit in the paper conveying direction; a second rigidity calculation unit 71f that acquires long side direction rigidity information corresponding to the rigidity in the long side direction of the paper and short side direction rigidity information corresponding to the rigidity in the short side direction of the paper; and a grain direction determination unit 71g that determines the grain direction of the paper based on at least either the long side direction rigidity information or the short side direction rigidity information, and comparison results of conveying direction rigidity information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
