Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To wet a paper web without damaging the same, in a constitution dampening the upper surface of the paper web with dampening water when the paper web dried by heat after printing is dampened, by infiltrating dampening water into the paper web on the basis of the planar gas pressure difference acting in the rear surface direction of the paper web.
SOLUTION: A printed paper web 01 is transferred to a thermal drying station and high temp. air is sprayed on the surface of the paper web 01 to dry the web. Since the paper web 01 after drying is relatively fragile and changes in its dimension, dampening water 02 is supplied to the upper surface 03 of the paper web 01 by a dampening arrangement. As the dampening water 02, water or an additive can be used. Subsequently, the paper web 01 is exposed to gas pressure difference and the planar force action to dampening water 02 is generated in the direction of the rear surface 06 of the paper web 01 to accelerate the diffusion of dampening water 02 into the paper web 01. By this constitution, dampening water 02 penetrates into the paper web 01 to increase the moisture content of the paper web 01.
